Position Overview:
The District of New Mexico has an opportunity for an Official Court Reporter to provide realtime reporting services for the Albequerque divisional office.
Court Reporters are employed by the court en banc and serve at the pleasure of the Court. Court Reporters must comply with the requirements of the Judicial Conference of the United States and the Plan of Management of Court Reporting Services for the District of New Mexico. Successful applicant will report to the Supervisory Court Reporter located in Las Cruces.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend and record verbatim reporting of proceedings held before judicial officers as specified by statute, rule, or order of the Court, and provide transcripts of those proceedings upon requests.
- Produce accurate, simultaneous realtime transcription utilizing computer-aided transcription (CAT)
- Maintain accurate and legible records of time, attendance, transcript production, and earnings which are subject to audits. Complete and submit all reports as directed by the Judicial Conference.
- Determine billing and formats which comply with the Judicial conference requirements.
- Complete and timely file or deliver transcripts and other required documents. Certify and file with the Clerk of Court original records and a copy of transcripts prepared.
- Must be familiar with and adhere to all requirements of the Court Reporter Management Plan for the district.
- Must be able to read back all or any portions of the court record, to perform well under pressure, to produce transcripts within strict time limitations, and to work as part of the team of reporters for the judges of this court.
- Respond timely to official correspondence. Comply with all administrative duties assigned by the supervisor and the Court and be available to work irregular hours as dictated by the Court.
Minimum Required Experience/Qualifications:
- At least one year of prime court reporting experience in a freelance field of service, in other courts, or a combination thereof (e.g., depositions, adversary proceedings before a presiding official, grand jury proceedings).
- Be qualified by testing for listing on a registry of professional reporters (RPR) of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or have passed an equivalent qualifying examination (evidence must be provided).
- Must be able to provide realtime reporting to judge and possess all necessary realtime equipment and software. Realtime certification is preferred, however, candidates who are capable of providing realtime and are actively working toward certification will also be considered.
- Applicants holding a Certificate of Merit from the NCRA are preferred.
Salary Levels:
Official court reporters are paid an annual salary as below, depending upon qualifications and experience, plus transcript fees established by the Judicial Conference.
- CR Level 1 - $93,715
- CR Level 2 - $98,401 (Requires merit certification)
- CR Level 3 - $103,087 (Requires realtime certification)
- CR Level 4 - $107,773 (Requires realtime certification and merit certification)
- CR Level 5* - $112,458 (Requires realtime certification, merit certification, and longevity)
*Current Federal Judiciary Court Reporters hired before 10/11/09 only and transferring without a break in service from another federal court.
Conditions of Employment:

The Second Judicial District is accepting applications for a full-time Official Stenographic or Electronic Court Reporter for Judge Designee Der Yang. In this position you will work directly with Judge Der Yang who is assigned to a criminal rotation and chambered at the Ramsey County Courthouse, 15 W Kellogg Blvd., St Paul, MN 55102.
This is highly responsible technical work. The primary functions are to capture a verbatim record of court proceedings using a stenographic machine or electronic court reporting equipment and to prepare and distribute transcripts in accordance with rules of court, opinions, state statutes, legal guidelines, and policies. Additionally, the court reporter serves as the appointing authority's confidential assistant. The court reporter exercises independent judgment as related to the duties of maintaining the record. Position Description
This is a fully benefited, full-time Harvard University position that has been funded for two years. There is the possibility of renewal, contingent on funding, university priorities and satisfactory job performance.
Reporting to the Associate Director of University Disability Resources (UDR), the Communication Access Realtime Translation (“CART”) Captioner and Coordinator is a two year term, full time benefited position that provides real-time captioning for students with disabilities in classes, academic activities, and at University events using a stenographic machine, computer and real-time captioning software. The CART Captioner and Coordinator also manages scheduling and coordination of additional captioners to facilitate the provision of accommodations for the University community. This position requires occasional evening and weekend work.
This position will also involve education of community members on the captioner role and how to work effectively and appropriately with a captioner. It will include coordinating with faculty and teaching staff to obtain materials necessary to prepare for captioning content that may at times be technical and/or complex. Preparation for academic setting captioning may include researching and becoming familiar with technical terminology and maintaining and updating a captioning dictionary. Editing transcripts will be required at times.
Basic Qualifications
- Proficient in use of a stenographic machine, laptop and captioning software to provide realtime word-for-word transcriptions of spoken English into text, not summarized, in academic settings. Real-time captioning should be provided at a minimum of 200 words per minute with at least 98.5% accuracy, effectively listening for continuity, sense, and detail.
- Ability to hear spoken English.
- Certified Realtime Captioner (CRR); Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR); or, Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA).
- Ability to perform the following: sit for extended periods of time, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling, reaching, carrying objects (up to 20 pounds).
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- 2 or more years CART captioning experience in a higher education setting is preferred.
- Working knowledge of or the ability to learn the vocabulary, terminology, and basic information in a variety of subjects commonly found in a university environment.
- Administrative, coordinating and recordkeeping skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Experience working in advanced academic environments is preferred.

Position Overview
The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Official Court Reporter. Court reporters are responsible for recording court proceedings verbatim in court and in chambers, for producing requested transcripts, and for filing required transcripts electronically in CM/ECF with the Clerk of Court.
This position is primarily responsible for court reporting services in Wilmington. Note the Eastern District of North Carolina encompasses 44 counties with divisional offices in Elizabeth City, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh (headquarters), and Wilmington, and this position, in addition to other court reporters, provides court reporting services to four district judges and four magistrate judges. The court reporter must be available to perform court reporting services for any judicial proceeding within the Eastern District of North Carolina; travel, including some overnight lodging, is required.

Representative Duties
The Official Court Reporter performs duties and responsibilities which include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performs court reporting services for any judicial proceeding as may be required.

- Maintains accurate, legible records which are subject to audits and/or available to read back any or all portions of the court records.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position, an individual must have at least one year of prime stenographic Computer Aided Transcription (CAT) court reporting experience in the freelance field or in other courts or a combination thereof; qualified testing for listing on the Registry of Professional Reporters of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or passed an equivalent qualifying examination that certifies 180 wpm literary, 200 wpm jury charge and 225 wpm testimony. The successful candidate must possess excellent organizational and communication skills to permit the production of transcripts within strict time limitations, work well under pressure, and be willing to work as part of a team of reporters under the direction of the Clerk of Court in fulfilling the needs of all judicial officers of the court. A judicial employee must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
Strong preference will be given to candidates who are a Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) and who possess a Certificate of Merit from the NCRA. Applicants may be subject to testing of Realtime capabilities, using personal equipment, during the interview process. A court reporter with federal court experience is preferred.

Job Duties
POSITION SUMMARY:
The responsibility of the court reporter position is to create verbatim records of court proceedings; prepare accurate transcripts; transcribe transcripts from audio recordings; review transcripts to ensure accuracy, certify and file/e-file transcripts; label exhibits in courtroom (when requested) and retain custody of exhibits in cases.
The Court Reporter position may prepare transcripts for Judges as part of the workday, but primarily prepares transcripts as an independent contractor. South Dakota Notary Public is required to swear in witnesses in the courtroom. No experience is necessary.
Successful completion of a criminal background investigation is required for employment.
5% increase in salary after successful completion of CRR (Certified Real-time Reporter) certification.
The fee for the preparation of a transcript from a court reporter's notes of evidence is $3.60 per page for the original. The fee for a copy, furnished on request, is $0.65 per page, to be paid to the officer of the court who prepared the transcript. Depending on the location transcript work can be moderate to extensive. Court reporters may be allowed to freelance and perform outside depositional work that does not involve the recording and/or transcribing of official judicial system court proceedings outside of normal office hours and for additional compensation as court calendars permit.

March 5, 2024 - Full Time Court Reporter Needed in Mercer Co, PA
Mercer county has an opening for a Court Reporter. This is a full-time position, 35 hours per week. The salary range is $34,481 to a top end of $48,352. Additional income is earned by processing court orders and transcripts. Starting salary is dependent upon experience. There is a comprehensive benefit package included. An RPR status is preferred, but not required. Mercer County pays for required continuing education as well as association memberships. A steno writer, laptop, and Case CATalyst software are also provided by Mercer County.
OVERALL OBJECTIVES
To stenographically record verbatim all court proceedings and transcribe a variety of hearings, as required by law; to prepare and process court orders, transcripts, and other related court proceedings with a high degree of speed and accuracy. The position works with confidential and sensitive information, requiring discretion and strict confidentiality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Stenographically reports verbatim the testimony in all court proceedings of the Court of Common Pleas, including trials, hearings, and conferences; interrupts when necessary to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the record; reads back portions of proceedings upon request.
- Transcribes, certifies, and files a variety of proceedings as required by law or statute with the appropriate filing offices.
- Prepares court orders, sentences, Findings of Fact, and other courtroom documents as required by the Common Pleas judges.
- Operates stenographic shorthand machine, computer, and various other standard office equipment.
- Provides a monthly list of pending transcripts to the Lead Reporter.
- Maintains record of transcript status; bills appropriate parties; delivers transcripts to the judges, attorneys, and other designated agencies or departments, as required.
- Follows standard procedures.
- Secures and maintains exhibits for storage, retrieval, and disposal, when appropriate.
- Ensures that adequate supplies are maintained.
- Determines correct spelling of names of parties and witnesses.
- Is familiar with any specialized, medical, and/or legal terminology, and other specifics of testimony.
- Must attend training, seminars, and conferences to maintain continuing education, as required.
- Must abide by the Code of Conduct of the Unified Judicial System.
- Must abide by the Rules Governing Court Reporting and Transcripts pursuant to Pennsylvania Rules of Judicial Administration 4001 through 4016.
- Must abide by the Mercer County Local Rules regarding court reporters and transcripts, as applicable.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
This position reports to the President Judge, any Common Pleas Court judge to whom assigned, and to the District Court Administrator, and occasional and limited direction from the Lead Reporter. Receives limited instruction or supervision in carrying out routine day to day tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those the employee
encounters while performing the essential functions of the position. A Court Reporter works indoors on a regular basis, in an office with minimal environmental factors, with adequate workspace, in adequate temperatures, ventilation, and lighting; and normal exposure to noise, disruptions, and stress; and normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
PHYSICAL/ MENTAL CONDITIONS
- Must possess ability to record, convey, assemble, and present information; explain procedures; and follow instructions.
- Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday with intermittent periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting, and reaching necessary to carry out job duties.
- Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers/hands to simple movements of feet/legs and torso necessary to carry out job duties.
- Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of twenty pounds.
- Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on court proceedings, testimony, and other work for long periods of time.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/TRAINING
High School diploma or equivalent and a Degree or Certificate in Court Reporting from a court reporting program of higher education; computer and stenographic skills required. Must meet the requirements listed in Rule 4004 – Qualifications of Court Reporters, PA Rules of Court.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Prior court reporting experience is a plus but is not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Must have extraordinary stenographic and typing skills and the ability to transcribe with speed and accuracy.
- Excellent knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.

January 9, 2023 - Court Reporters Needed in the NY Unified Court System
The New York State Unified Court System (UCS) is in need of court reporters. To meet growing demands and to show our commitment to the profession of court reporting, we have modified our qualifications for employment to make it seamless for candidates to transition into becoming an official court reporter with our courts.
The UCS has created a new title, Court Reporter – Trainee, specifically aimed at recruiting candidates immediately upon completion of a formal program in court reporting. Candidates now qualify by earning their associate degree in Court Reporting and/or court reporting certification from a qualifying program that demonstrates, among other requirements, machine shorthand skills of 225 wpm as a result of passing two or more Q&A exams.
This position is designed for recent graduates new to the court reporting profession and will provide candidates the opportunity to develop their skills methodically, under the supervision and direction of supervising court reporters and court managers. Upon successfully completing a one-year traineeship, the candidate will be promoted to the full title of Court Reporter, with a two-paygrade increase.
